AdventĀ is to Christmas what Lent is to Easter. They’re both times of preparing for God to bring restoration and peace, but of an entirely different sort than we’re expecting.
Advent is the time when we look at the world and sigh because we’re tired of war, hate & darkness. But Advent isn’t nihilism – it’s also a time of breathless anticipation, of waiting for Christ to come walk among us and redeem our brokenness. Advent reminds us that the Kingdom of God is still coming in spite of all the times when it seems like the darkness has won.
So “Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature sing!”
